I’ve always considered myself a decent cook. I am by no means a gourmet chef, but I can manage. However, if we’re being honest, I have never actually enjoyed cooking. But, a girl’s gotta eat!
Adrian loves to cook. I have always known this about him, but what I didn’t know is how well he can cook. He is constantly watching the Food Network and experimenting in the kitchen and is very imaginative and creative with food!
Like many girls, I always imagined that when I got married I would be doing the majority of the cooking. Call me old-fashioned, but that is what I knew. I often feel intimidated when cooking for Adrian because I feel like my meals are never good enough.
Tonight, we wanted to cook together. I immediately took a back seat in the kitchen because Adrian already had a plan mapped out for dinner. Honestly I felt a little insecure about what I was doing. I though he was giving me menial jobs because he didn’t want/need my help. What I didn’t realize was that Adrian was doing was doing the bulk of the work because he was trying to serve me. In his mind, he wanted to cook for me because it would be providing for me. In my mind, I was not being a good wife because my cooking skills are not up to par.
Tonight opened my eyes to the fact that I do not have to accept traditional gender roles. I don’t HAVE to make dinner every single night. If it is something that my husband truly enjoys then let him do it!! I can enjoy the night off!
SIDE NOTE: This is not what my typical meal looks like. I prefer to cook healthy meals, eating organic whenever I can (It’s so expensive!). Adrian, however, prefers to eat every meal like it’s his last. While I enjoy cooking with fresh vegetables, Adrian likes to cook with butter and bacon.
So let’s get to dinner! It was delicious!
Adrian and I both LOVE our cheese!!
The finished product!
YUM! It was wonderful! My husband is the best!
